New Voices - The documentary

Here’s an inspiring documentary about the amazing project I’ve been involved in in the past couple of years. Thanks to Arthouse productions for telling this story, to the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts for trusting me with this project, and ATB for believing in it and supporting it. Check out the songs too!

Recap: My Tour With Alexis

Show in Campbellton

We just added a last-minute show to our itinerary: a noon-hour performance at Café Europa in Campbellton, NB, on Monday the 17!

Itinerary Change

Unfortunately, Alexis an I are cancelling our show in Halifax tonight due to a nasty blizzard sweeping across the Maritimes. Hopefully we’ll make it up to you soon!

Also, the show in Caraquet is pushed to Sunday the 16th, and the one in St-Quentin will happen Monday the 17th.

Double-Bill Tour with Alexis Normand

Spectacle Double Plateau - Raphaël Freynet et Alexis NormandI’m very excited to announce a tour with Alexis Normand!

Last summer, after a late-night jam in Banff, Alexis (very talentend Saskatchewan musician and signer-songwriter) and I had the idea to build a show together and take it out to Eastern Canada.

We worked together, in spite of the distance between us, to organize the tour and build the show, and here we are now, getting ready to leave for Quebec and the Maritimes! Drummer Ivan Burke will be joining us in Edmonton next week, where we will be playing the kickoff show (next Thursday, for one night only).

It’s going to be an intimate show, where we’ll play on the prairie-influenced musical sensibilities that Alexis and I share.

Here is the itinerary:

March 6: Edmonton , AB Jeffrey’s Café
March 7: Saskatoon , SK Village Guitares
March 9: Montréal , QC Verre Bouteille
March 11: Edmundston , NB Le Vieux Poele Pub
March 12: Moncton , NB Plan B
March 13: Halifax , NS Company House
March 14: Caraquet , NB Grains de Folie
March 15: Petit-Rocher , NB Bistro Cœur d’ Artishow
March 16: Saint Quentin , NB Le Karma Café
March 18: Québec , QC Studio P

If you happen to be in one of these cities, you should come out! The facebook event is here:

Festival du Voyageur

I’m back from one of my favorite semi-annual winter activities: The Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg. We always come away a little more tired than at the beginning… A big thank you to the Festival, Manitoba Music who invited me to their new showcase, my musicians Jon Lemer, Gilles Fournier, Ariel Posen, Joseph Peloquin-Hopfner, Claire Morrison, and especially, thank you to everyone who came out to see us play the showcase and the festival’s closing show. We had a blast.

Opening Set For Louis-Jean Cormier

I’m writing this from the Trans-Canada Highway. It’s been a while since I posted on here, but it’s not for a lack of interesting things going on!

This week, I’ll be opening for the amazingly prolific singer-songwriter and producer Louis-Jean Cormier (lead signer of Karkwa, winner of the 2011 Polaris Music Prize). Needless to say, I’m super excited, and can’t wait to play at the Artery in Edmonton (part of the Coup de Coeur Festival) this Wednesday, with drummer and percussionist Ivan Burke. Tickets are sold out, so it’s going to be a good show!

I’m driving back from Winnipeg, where we had a great time playing at the Garage Café. A huge thanks to everyone who came out and packed the place. Good times! Also, a shout out to the Bros. Landreth, and big thanks for having me do their opening set in Edmonton in September. If you don’t know them yet, well… you will be hearing about them everywhere soon enough.

Stay tuned, I’ll soon be posting show dates for an upcoming tour in Quebec and the maritimes for March 2014.
